Applying the VitalPatch for Cardiac Monitoring

Step 1: Charge the VistaPhone

  • Remove the VistaPhone from the kit box and plug into the provided charger.
  • Check the VistaPhone battery level often and keep phone charged.
  • Charge near your bedside while you sleep.

Step 2: Turn on and unlock the VistaPhone

  • Tap the power key on the phone to check if the phone is on.
  • If the phone is not on, press the power key until the device vibrates and the screen lights up.
  • Swipe your finger across the screen to unlock.
  • If the phone asks for a PIN code, enter 1 2 3 4 OK

Step 3: Remove VitalPatch from pouch

  • Tear open pouch at the notch.
  • Remove the VitalPatch from the pouch.
  • Wait 2 minutes before going to the next step.

Step 4: Prepare upper-left chest

  • It may be helpful to stand in front of a mirror for the following steps.
  • If there is body hair on the upper-left chest, shave before cleaning.
  • Clean site with alcohol wipe and allow to dry.

Step 5: Power-on VitalPatch

  • Place VitalPatch on flat surface.
  • Press power button.
  • A green light will flash below the logo. The light will go off.

Step 6: Hold against chest

Do not remove the adhesive backings yet.

  • Hold VitalPatch against chest and space two fingers below notch.
  • Angle down across chest with the three lines pointing down.

Step 7: Remove backings and apply

  • Hold one side of the VitalPatch down and peel the backing off the other side.
  • Repeat for the other backing.
  • Firmly press down both sides.
  • DO NOT shower or exercise for 30 minutes after putting on the VitalPatch. You may shower after 30 minutes.
  • DO NOT swim with the VitalPatch or use in a sauna, steam room or hot tub.

Step 8: Pair VitalPatch

  • Follow the on-screen help to apply the patch (same as these instructions).
  • At the end of the help screens, the phone will automatically scan for patches.
  • Tap the ID of the VitalPatch that matches the ID on the backing label of your patch.
  • The VitalPatch is now paired to the VistaPhone.

Step 9: Report symptoms

  • If you feel a symptom during monitoring, unlock the phone and tap the Report Symptom button.
  • Select the symptom(s) and then tap Next.
  • Select your activity level during the symptom and then tap Submit.

Step 10: Wear for 7 days and replace

  • The VitalPatch will last for 7 days and will then automatically disconnect.
  • You can manually disconnect if there are less than 4 hours remaining.
  • After disconnecting, if you have more patches in your kit, apply a new VitalPatch.
  • If you have used all your patches, your monitoring period is complete. Follow the instructions below to return the kit.

Step 11: Remove old patch (no adhesive overlay)

  • If you have an old patch, remove it first before applying a new patch.
  • Wipe an adhesive removal pad around the patch and then peel a corner up.

  • Wipe an adhesive removal pad around the edge of the overlay.
  • Grab a corner of the overlay.
  • Pull overlay sideways across body. The overlay and patch will peel off together.

Step 12: Fold, cut and recycle patch

  • Fold removed patch in half.
  • After folding, cut patch with scissors.
  • Place cut patch in pink recycling bag for return.

Step 13: Return monitoring kit

  • Put power adapter and cable in compartments on the right.
  • Power-off the phone and put it face-down in the compartment on the right.
  • Put the recycling bag with used patches in the compartment on the left. Also return any unused patches. Discard all other items (wipes, instructions, and so on).
  • Peel off the adhesive liner on the top flap. Close box and tuck in side flaps. Press front flap closed to seal shut.
  • Return box to US Post Office or in your mailbox for mail pickup.

Step 14: Review results with your doctor

  • Your doctor will contact you when the results of your cardiac monitoring test are complete.
